The title of our blog really says it all, but we figured a bit more detail would be appreciated. I’m Doug, and my colleague here is Doug White.
Doug White:
Doug White can best be described as a cross between Andy Rooney, Mickey Rourke and Roger Ebert, he’s cynical, and cares not if hes liked. He will call it as he sees it with zero tolerance for fluff. Doug White was raised by his thespian mother in Gothicly gorgeous Detroit (if you ever get a chance, have him give you his $.25 tour) he’s got a quick temper and feels regret is a waste of emotion. Doug W. has been studying cinema for 17 years, during those years he has cultivated a swift eye for hacks and geniuses alike. His opinions should be heard, and if you don’t agree I dare you to to tell him why. When it comes to books he does not pretend to be an expert, he just likes to read. Same with food; when my wife and I have him for dinner, he kicks us out of the kitchen (we don’t argue) to let his street refined culinary skills loose. On those occasions were treated with a spicy protein and an ethically divers chorus of sides. My wife and I get to clean. He likes whiskey, women, his 69 Super Sport Chevelle, and his mangy mutt Eddie Dean.
Doug:
Then there’s me. I’m not as colorful as my counter part and unfortunately you will be hearing from me the majority of the time for Doug White is like trying to ride a tornado through the Himalayas. Since I can remember on Friday nights my dad would take me to the movies. The theater had a giant, weathered marque that screamed out the current titles. I passed that lighted, archaic, behemoth everyday to and from school. In class, I daydreamed about the titles, what they meant; Krull, Star Wars, Alien, The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen, the list goes on. Once 3:00p.m. hit, when that bell sang freedom, I would sprint home, burning past the marque sparring only the briefest of glances. My dad would be there and we would go loose ourselves for a few hours every week. Dad planted the seed for my love of cinema on those Friday nights in that old dilapidated theater. Now several years later, after film school, after traveling the U.S., after getting married, after having a baby girl, after many many things my love for film has only grown. A film can bring people together, or push them apart, it can educate or stupefy. Film is the number one medium that reaches people, it seeps into your pores and can change you. Film is entertainment, very powerful entertainment. I, Doug, went to college in Southern California to study film. I have been reading as long as I could and my undergrad was in English Lit. When it comes to cooking it is simply a profound joy. I have no expertise in cooking, but the more you do something the better you become at it; right?.
This site was started on January 20, 2008. It was started as a way to purge information from our crowded heads while giving readers some insight into at least three of their favorite things. Really who doesn’t like Movies, Books and/or food. We will be covering movie news, although our primary focus will be on recommendations.
We will give what we deem pertinent movie news as it comes down the pipeline. Figure 1 to 2 post a day. We will be reviewing a minimum of 2 movies a week (they will not all be new releases). We will attempt to review 1 book a week, and any book news we find interesting.
And that my friends is it. We hope you enjoy the site and visit often. Please give us your 2cents, ’cause if you don’t then this will all be for naught.
Thank you-
The Dougs
