ESPN the widely popular sports channel is looking to bring in some big name directors to do some doco work. Spike Lee, Richard Linklater and Davis Guggenheim are the first three that the sports channel has mentioned they want for their ambitious new project.
ESPN, which is expanding into the docu space with the creation of a program titled “30/30,” will pair a filmmaker with a sports topic close to his or her heart. Each director will make an hour-long docu that will be broadcast, likely on Tuesdays, beginning in fall 2009 and continuing during the course of the next year.
WOW, sounds interesting. I bet ya Spike does one on Basketball, come on any takers, any…
This is a pretty cool idea. My only concern is that they end up picking a person to do a piece on and blow said person up to be (an even) larger than life. I believe they are going to stick to the sport, if that’s the case there is a potential here for this to be great. The folks over at ESPN are pretty clever and put out a great product, I have every confidence that ESPN will continue to do so.
What do you think-
