By now we all know of the untimely death of actor Heath Ledger, it’s tragic and a brutal reminder of how fragile life is. His death has been covered here and countless other places, so lets talk about he last film, Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, directed by Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Brazil…). Ledger was set to star in Imaginarium and was unable to finish principal photography. Thankfully the script, written by Gilliam and Charles McKeown, allows the director to pay tribute to the late Ledger (in a fantastic way) while preserving the film. I for one can never get too much Gilliam.
Imaginarium is about a traveling theater company who, through a deal with the Devil, takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations.
Gilliam, the genius that he is, is using three of Hollywood’s best to play the part of Heath as he goes through the mirror. Apparently, once Dr. Parnassus steps through the mirror he will become someone else. Don’t kid yourself, we’ve all wished we were someone else at one time or another. I love this idea, it’s a great way to showcase Ledger and keep a great movie alive.
The 3 are:
Johnny Depp
Jude Law
Colin Farrell
Those three, those are excellent choice(s), a little surprised by Farrell, but he was great in Phone Booth. The alter ego’s of Dr Parnassus are pretty cool indeed. Man, I’m really excited about this movie.
Tell me what you think.
