Guillermo del Toro has topped a short list of potentials to direct The Hobbit. Peter Jackson, who directed the orginal trilogy, will produce.
Guillermo Del Toro is going to be a house hold name. I remember watching The Devils Backbone and thinking, “this guy is great, and he’s gonna be a superstar.” Well I was right, Guillermo del Toro is on fire and it could not happen to a better guy. If your not familiar with his work, you must stop reading this and go watch The Devils Backbone, Pans Labyrinth, even Blade 2, Hellboy, Chronos, Mimic and all the rest. Del Toro is in post-production with Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Del Toro has other films on the horizon which I’m jazzed to see, like a new adaptation of Frankenstein and an update on the Cthulhu Mythos with an upcoming adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s, At the Mountains of Madness.
The Hobbit is being turned into two films, shot simultaneously. The additional subject matter is being pulled from the supplemental material that Tolkein wrote. The Hobbit 1 is set to be released in 2010 and pt. 2 in 2011. Both films have an estimated budget of $150 million a piece. I know, WOW, that’s a lot of cash. I guess no price is to high for our entertainment needs. My only fear is that At the Mountains of Madness will suffer another set back.
Tell me what you think.

technically speaking, after seeing pan’s labyrinth i’ll make a sure bet ‘the hobbit’ is gonna rock! i was hoping that they would do this movie. the added subject matter sounds really juicy for all us tolkein nerds. this will be intresting.
any word on the cast? samual l jackson as gandalf?
biff
Hey Biff-
I have not heard any word on cast. Sam Jackson, really? Sam is great an all, but I think they need to have Ian McKellen back in the “Grey Robes.” Also I wonder if Ian Holm will play Bilbo, he may be to old. I’ll post news as I hear. And I encourage you to do the same also.
